First meal prep delivery! Attempting to eat more healthy as I have various issues that supposedly can be cured with “diet & exercise”. Well suck it, chronic health issues make both of those things nearly impossible. I will be starting on tirzepatide soon and will do my best but I can’t cook, don’t cook and absolutely will not ever have the energy for it. Thus, meal prep delivery services. Starting with Tempo (aka Kroger branded Home Chef meals), they are the cheapest right now with 60% off your first order (as low as *$4.99* a meal! Yeah, before shipping). Have I mentioned that I’m cheap as fuck? That’s important to remember here. My goal is to only order once or twice a month and keep the shipping costs to a minimum. Most meals can be frozen and the ones I received were good for at least 10 days to 2 weeks. I ordered on a Friday and they were delivered on Monday morning. Let’s face it, food prices are ridiculous right now. By doing this I am saving money by not wasting food & being more mindful. I am also saving *energy* and *time* both very valuable things, especially to someone with chronic illnesses. I am also appealing to the part of me that has started craving variety and fresher food - I am so sick of processed everything. I am however being very terrible to the environment. Yes, a lot of the packaging can recycled IF you live somewhere with a decent recycling program. Currently some of this cannot be recycled here. And I feel bad. But my body feels better? 10 meals +shipping ($10.99 for us) came to $60.91 so just over 6 bucks a meal. (Rakuten also has a $10 back on your first order deal, check that out if you use it!) (Aside, I made the rookie mistake of forgetting when the next week started & so got charged nearly full price for another 10 meals. However, their customer service chat on the website was super easy - credited the charge immediately and apologized for the confusion!) Food reviews no one asked for to come…. Affiliate links in bio. Tempo Meal Delivery - Spinach and Artichoke Grilled Chicken With garlic parsley Farro I’m a sucker for anything with spinach and artichoke so I jumped on this one really fast when I ordering. Despite the fact that I didn’t really know what farro* was (I had a broad idea of what it was and I was mostly right). As always, the chicken was fantastic, enjoyed the spinach artichoke sauce immensely and the farro was actually pretty tasty. There were carrots and cauliflower on the side, which I mixed a little olive oil and the Trader Joe’s spices into (because I generally am not a big fan of cauliflower). It actually made the cauliflower really good! Which is great to know because I know it’s good for you and so I shall be ordering it more at this point. (So cauliflower yes, sweet potatoes no - I am learning a hell of a lot about myself now!) I was four days into my first dose of tirzepatide at this point and definitely having some appetite suppression so I did not finish this for lunch, nor even dinner lol! So my husband got to try this one out as well and despite the fact that he doesn’t really like spinach and artichoke, he ate it pretty quickly so I think he enjoyed it. *a chewy, nutty flavored ancient wheat grain! And that finishes out the Tempo meals from Kroger by Home Chef. All in all, I was really pleased with most of these meals. They had good variety, amazing serving sizes and just really easy & tasty food. Next up will be meals from CookUnity. Please block or mute hashytag #tae27getshealthy if this isn’t your thing! Zesty Hawaiian Chicken Still not bored with chicken! I love their sous vide chicken so much. It’s just really, really good and tender. And you get a whole chicken breast, which is awesome! 2 1/2 minutes in the microwave, just to make sure that the chicken was heated all the way through, this was a really thick piece. The coconut rice was delicious and as usual I loved the broccoli and carrots - I did toss them with a tiny bit of olive oil and spices tho. But they are probably my favorite veggie combo! The sweet chili sauce was nice and not too hot. Which is good cuz once again there was so much left of this that my husband got to have some as well and he really enjoyed it. Smokehouse Barbecue Brisket I actually got two of these when I ordered because I knew my husband would want to try one. This is basically a rice bowl with corn and broccoli and then the beef on top. Two and a half minutes in the microwave to get the cheese really melty. As usual, the rice, corn and broccoli were my favorite part. They do a really great job and I *love* their jasmine rice. The barbecue sauce was pretty nice and sweet, but I do wish it had been a little bit thicker. The brisket - well, I have to start off by saying we are very spoiled. We have a Firehouse Sandwich shop nearby and it is one of my favorite places to get sandwiches and our absolute favorite sandwich to get is their brisket and cheddar, it is amazing! So it’s not really fair to compare them - this brisket was good and if I wasn’t spoiled by the other brisket, I’d probably say it was fabulous. But it’s not quite there. Still this was a really lovely meal. Oh, and my husband really liked his too, but kind of feels the same way about the beef. Please block or mute hashytag #tae27getshealthy if this isn’t your thing! Mozzarella Marinara Chicken Eventually I’ll be sick of chicken I’m sure but not anytime soon! Cooked for 2:30mins in the microwave - the extra 30 seconds wasn’t necessary and ended up melting the mozzarella too much. Live and learn! Carrot coins were yum, tasted pretty fresh. The broccoli, despite having added garlic and parsley, really needed something more? I generally like broccoli in all forms so that surprised me a bit, but pretty sure a sprinkle of olive oil would help with that. I really like the marinara sauce that they use, it’s doesn’t tend to give me heartburn like some of them do (hello Pizza Hut). The chicken was a whole damn chicken breast and was tasty as hell. I couldn’t however finish it, it was so huge! Husband to the rescue, but this is really good to know - I’m pretty sure some of these packages I could get *two* meals out of once I’m on the tirz and eating tiny amounts of food. I will happily order this one again should I decided to continue. Please block or mute hashytag #tae27getshealthy if this isn’t your thing! Affiliate links in bio. Tempo Meal Delivery - Poblano Bacon Chicken Breast With broccoli and sweet potatoes This was a *huge* chicken breast. I definitely could not finish this one on my own. I didn’t quite know what poblano* was but the cream sauce was a pretty green and tasted really great, especially with the bacon. Which was actual bacon, not Bacon Bits like the description makes you think (or makes me think at least). The broccoli was good as usual, but I discovered (as I had thot I remembered) I hate sweet potatoes. Absolutely *hate* sweet potatoes, so I threw some olive oil and a little bit of Trader Joe’s 21 spice salute on them - it still didn’t make them palatable to me, but I did eat them because eat your veggies, bitch. The rest was really fantastic though. I enjoyed it a lot. And my husband enjoyed the leftovers! *It’s a pepper! Please block or mute hashytag #tae27getshealthy if this isn’t your thing!
