I am very interested in the role clothing plays in music, and this article is the second in a sort-of series where I interview artists about how what they wear helps them to tell their stories and make their art.

This project began when I realized that no one was writing about clothing and music in a serious and insightful way; when what musicians wear is written about, it is always about Big Name Brands, sponsorships, the cost of an outfit, or who wore what best.

I desperately wanted to read about how clothing, and in Heilung’s case regalia, was part of a musical artist's storytelling tool box, and since there was nothing out in the world already, I decided to do it myself.

I know that there is an immense cultural value in these conversations and my writing about them. I know my readership finds this work fascinating, as these articles are some of my best performing pieces of 2025.
