The key insight from this project was that eyeliner purchases are driven less by specs and more by self-expression and confidence. Customers expect eyeliner to work. What makes them choose one brand over another is how the product makes them feel when they wear it. Messaging that leaned into: • Effortless precision • All-day confidence • Freedom to experiment without mistakes performed better than technical explanations alone. Once the product story shifted from “what it does” to “how it empowers,” engagement and brand affinity increased. In beauty, performance earns credibility, but emotion earns loyalty.
